An anti-junta activist group has urged the junta to step down after the 2015 charter draft was rejected on Sunday, saying that the junta only wants to hold on to its power.
The New Democracy Movement (NDM), a well known anti-junta activist group many of whose members were detained in late June for anti-junta gatherings , announced the group’s stand against the military government at Thammasat University, Tha Prachan Campus, on Sunday 4 pm, 6 September 2015.

5 September 2015, the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) has the following legal opinions concerning the Draft Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand which is tabled for voting in the National Reform Council (NRC) on 6 September. Four points are being raised coupled with recommendations as follows;
(1) The lack of democratic justification in its inception and drafting process – The Draft Constitution has been made possible directly as a result of a military coup. Legally, the commission of a coup is an unlawful act.

The vote of the National Reform Council (NRC) for or against the draft constitution on 6 September 2015 is a pivotal point for Thai politics. At the end of the line, however, people will be given two main choices: whether to prolong the life of the Thai junta; or to have an elected government by late 2016, which will be lorded over by a ‘Crisis Panel’, a Thai style ‘Politburo’.

Military officers paid a visit to an anti-establishment red shirt man in northern Thailand, asking his opinions on Thailand’s new draft constitution.
According to the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR), four military officers in plainclothes on Saturday afternoon, 29 August 2015, came to have a discussion with Siriwat Jupamadta, a coordinator of United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), a red shirt group, at his office in the northern province of Phayao.

Under Thailand’s new constitution, the military does not have to carry out a coup d’état; the coup has already been written in to law.
Last Saturday, the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) concluded its duties, releasing the second and final draft of Thailand’s constitution.

An independent Thai human rights researcher has pointed out that the Thai junta’s order to halt the selection of candidates to an independent law reform agency cuts off ways for people to participate in national reform.

The Thai junta leader has invoked his authority under the Interim Constitution to put on hold the process of selecting new members of a law reform agency, saying that the upcoming constitution is already meant to reform the country.
On Wednesday, 15 July 2015, the junta’s National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO) issued Order No. 20/2015 to stop the process of selecting new committee chairs of the Law Reform Commission of Thailand (LRCT), an independent state agency which promotes legal reforms.

Thai lawmakers have scrapped an opportunity of marriage equality for all SOGIEs (sexual orientations and gender identifications and expressions) in Thailand in the draft constitution, saying that the nation is not ready.
According to the Foundation for SOGI Rights and Justice (FOR SOGI), the Constitutional Drafting Committee (CDC) reached a consensus on 26 June 2015 to remove the phrase “rights to marriage” from Article 38 in Section 2, the section on citizens’ and human rights of the draft constitution.

With uncertainty about whether the Thai junta will hold a public referendum on the draft constitution or impose it without public consent, alternative media outlets and think tanks in Thailand came together to open an online forum titled ‘Prachamati’ (referendum) to let people speak their mind about the draft constitution which is currently being debated by the junta’s National Reform Council (NRC).

A civil society organisation for Thailand’s poor has urged people to call on the Thai junta through local administrators to hold a referendum on the draft constitution.
The Assembly of the Poor, an organisation which is the voice of Thailand’s poor communities, on Tuesday submitted a statement to the Thai junta to demand that the regime hold a public referendum on the draft of the country’s highest law, the constitution.
