She is a paragon of a Thai citizen.  She fasts after noon every wan phra and she knows the Pali responses in Buddhist ceremonies (but not always what they mean).  Even more religiously than her religious observances, she wears yellow and purple on the appropriate occasions.

This government is beginning to get up my nose. Why can’t they stick to what they do best?  Like barging into TV stations and telling them what they can and cannot show.  And then saying they don’t do censorship.  Or resurrecting a xenophobic rewrite of the Foreign Business Act that will stop these filthy foreigners from controlling their own investments.  And then buggering off to international meetings and telling foreigners that we just love your filthy money so please keep investing here.

Bangkok in 2014 must be one of the most infertile laboratories for communication. Any attempt of communication between the polarized sides in a society, for nearly a decade already, has broken down, and seemingly the first and only successful attempt of the two sides to sit down together turned out to be a trick to arrest everybody at the table and put the army in control. Facebook has been the battleground of the two sides and soon became a place where citizens monitored fellow citizens to inform on any suspicious comments/activities.

The Cabinet has passed a resolution on a code of conduct for public service vehicles.  And I am sure we all agree that such a thing is overdue, what with trains derailing by the day and minivans crashing at high speed, all the way down to more everyday problems such as having to jump from buses in the fast lane and negotiate 2 lanes of Bangkok traffic to find the safety of the pavement.

Increased access to the internet in Thailand can bridge the social gap between rural people and townspeople, experts said at INET Bangkok 2013, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre on June 7-8. Since today many rural areas in Thailand still experience difficulties in using the Internet, a gap divides people even in the same country.
