Keep Commitment to Hold Military Accountable for 2010 Violence (New York, August 23, 2012) – The Thai government should order the army commander-in-chief to cease interfering in the criminal investigations of the 2010 political violence, Human Rights Watch said today. The army chief, Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, should also stop trying to intimidate critics by filing criminal defamation cases, Human Rights Watch said.

The Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation officially approved the use of snipers during its crackdown on the red shirts in 2010, according to one of its own classified documents, despite the Army Chief’s recent ‘no snipers’ claim.

He also visited the ICC in the Hague with the Red Shirt delegation this week.

Victims Would Bear Brunt of Proposed Amnesty (Bangkok, May 15, 2012) – The Thai government has not arrested or charged a single soldier or official for any of the scores of deaths and hundreds of injuries during the political violence in Bangkok two years ago, Human Rights Watch said today. The Thai government should withdraw an amnesty bill submitted to parliament that would shield all those involved in abuses during the 2010 violence from prosecution, Human Rights Watch said.
