Thai chicken farm company Thammakaset has filed two new criminal complaints against former human rights commissioner Angkhana Neelapaijit and Fortify Rights Senior Human Rights Specialist Puttanee Kangkun for their tweets and re-tweets expressing support for human rights defenders facing lawsuits from Thammakaset and linking to news releases published by Fortify Rights about the cases.

It has been a month since Siam Theerawut went missing along with two other refugees, Chucheep “Uncle Sanam Luang” Chiwasut and Kritsana Tupthai, after it was reported that they had been arrested in Vietnam and extradited to Thailand on 8 May. So far, neither the Thai nor Vietnamese authorities have disclosed information about the three men’s fate.

Instead of investigating human rights violations, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been mandated to defend the image of the military government and this new measure is likely to be permanent, said Human Rights Watch. Two weeks ago, What Tingsamitr, the NHRC chairperson, told the media that the commission is initiating an investigation into the human rights report recently released by the US State Department. What stated that according to the 2017 Constitution, the NHRC is responsible for scrutinising reports on human rights in Thailand.

A well-known human rights commissioner has lodged a complaint against online news outlets over fake news about her comments on a karaoke hostess accused of committing a gruesome murder. On 7 June 2017, Angkhana Neelapaijit, a National Human Rights Commissioner, filed a complaint to the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) against online media sites which allegedly violated her rights.
